STRIKE AT GIBEON

“Jeremy! Jeremy!” Jeremy looked up. His 17-year old friend, Jobia, was standing there. “Jeremy! Joshua had announced that the army is to get ready for battle. We are to attack the 6 Kingdoms, who are attacking Gibeon!” Jeremy glanced at him and said “May God help us.” Jeremy went to his basket of armor and weapons. He strapped on his shin guards, his breastplate and gathered a scimitar, a dagger and his bow and arrows.

He ran out of his tent and saw Israel’s army swarming out of the camps of Gilgal and going toward the leader, Joshua to get orders. Jeremy joined the group and his friend, Abram, stood next to him. Abram said, in a sly voice, “Aren’t you forgetting your shield?” Then Jeremy realized that he didn’t see his shield in the basket. “Abram, hand it over.” Abram handed over a goat skin, round shield. It belonged to Jeremy’s father before he was slain in the Battle of Ai. It was the only thing to remind him of his father. Joshua suddenly yelled, “Men of Israel! Our servants, the Gibeonites are being attacked! We’ll march until we’re there and the spears go to the front, then swordsmen, then the slings, and the archers are last! May God be with you and may his will be done!”

AFTER AN ALL NIGHT-MARCH…

“STRIKE FOR THE LORD!” Jeremy released an arrow at the approaching 6 Kingdoms’ Army. Jeremy saw 2 men on a hill, ready to light bales of hay, with fire and kick it down. Jeremy notched 2 arrows, aimed, and released. The arrows flew swiftly into a head and a chest. Suddenly 10 volleys of arrows and spears rained down onto Israel’s army.

Jeremy yelped as an arrow scratched his cheek. Joshua then roared, “TO THE SWORDS!”

AFTER THE BATTLE…

As Jeremy entered the camp of Gilgal, Jobia ran next to Jeremy and said, “Thank God you are alive! Abram, son of Jolan, was slain on the road to Beth Horon.” Jeremy glanced at Jobia and murmured, “I pray God will accept his soul.”

“Jeremy, today I saw my first miracle in battle!” Jeremy looked at Jobia, grinning and saying, “You mean when Joshua made the sun and the moon stay in the middle of the sky when we were fighting, with God’s power? God has done more miracles in battle. My father fought in the battle of Jericho and Israel won just by yelling.” Jobia sighed. “Never knew my father. He was killed when I was born.”

When Jobia and Jeremy walked past the tent of Ramon, son of Samon, they tripped over something. Jobia turned around and gasped. There laid Ramon, dead with his and Jeremy’s dagger stuck in him. Samon came out to get a drink of water, when he suddenly saw his son, Jobia and Jeremy. “NOOO! God of my fathers, NO!” wailed Samon, “Jeremy, son of Daniel and Jobia, son of Josiah, I see your daggers in my son! You have killed my son!”
“N-no, Samon son of Jamon, we h-have not k-killed your s-s-son!” sputtered Jobia.
“Jobia, son of Josiah, do not dare lie! The God of my fathers knows if you men lied! Come with me to Joshua and the Elders!

AT THE TENT OF THE ELDERS…

“As you men know, the penalty of murder is death, but Samon wants 1 of you to go out to the desert and kill 40 wild goats and bring it to him in 4 days, or the 1 staying will lose his head and we will hunt down the hunter and kill him.” said Joshua, “Who will go hunt?” Jeremy raised his hand and said, “I shall go and hunt down 40 wild goats and return in 4 days.” Joshua turned to Jobia and said, “Do you agree?” Jobia replied, “Yes, I agree.” Joshua then said, “Now go Jeremy and this is what you may bring.” Joshua then handed a list to Jeremy.

THE HUNT FOR THE 40 WILD GOATS

Jeremy gathered the things on the list. He then realized that Joshua and the Elders didn’t write down tent or sleeping bag. He then took apart his tent, bundled it up and got a sleeping bag. He went next door to his cousin’s tent and borrowed a donkey. “Take care of old Sally,” His old cousin said, “She’s 50 years-old.” Jeremy then saddled up Old Sally and started out of the camp. At the edge of camp were Joshua and 5 armed men. Joshua gave a nod and the 5 men grabbed Jeremy and threw him to the ground. They ripped the bags off Old Sally and if they found something that wasn’t on the list they would throw it to the ground. Jeremy gaped as the 5 men pile up the things and set it on fire. Joshua then looked at Jeremy and said, “You may now go.” Jeremy got up and brushed the dirt off his knees. He then jumped on to Old Sally and rode off.

2 DAYS LATER…

Jeremy had not found a single goat. He was running out of food and had no sleep. He then saw something in the distance. He heard a bleat and then saw a goat, wait, no, 10 goats in the distance! He notched 3 arrows, aimed and fired. The arrows swiftly flew as they hit their targets. 3 goats fell and a goat turned and gasped as an arrow hit his ribs. The goat leader turned, felt something hard go into him, and then every thing went black.

THE NEXT 4 HOURS…

Jeremy looked around him. 10 bloody goats were around him, with arrows in them. He looked up to the skies before he slammed on to the ground in a deep sleep.

THE NEXT DAY…

Jeremy woke up to see what time of day it was. He that saw it was the third day. He only got 10 goats and he had to find 30 more goats before he and Jobia would die. He picked up the 10 goats and loaded them onto Old Sally. Old Sally gave a wheeze as Jeremy hit her rump to move her. “Poor Old Sally,” Thought Jeremy, “Always moving and working.” Jeremy walked next to Old Sally as they moved on, looking for more goats. Jeremy looked around for goats as Old Sally walked.

BACK AT THE CAMP…

Jobia was roaming the camp when he then saw Jared the Sly. He was the bully of the camp and he once claimed God gave him the sharpest eye of the camp. Jeremy had an archery contest with Jared because he was so annoyed with him and beat 20/20 shots while Jared got a bad score of 3/20 shots. Another time he claimed he was the best swordsman. Jobia versed him in a 2/3 training combat and Jobia won all 3 combats. Jared usually had his best dagger with him, but this time, he had 2 familiar daggers on him. Jobia then realized Jared had Jeremy’s and his daggers! After the burial, nobody saw the daggers and Jared was the first to leave! It was Jared who killed Ramon! Jobia ran to Joshua’s tent. “Joshua! We didn’t kill Ramon! Jared son of Tared killed him!” Joshua stared at him and said, “Bring him.” Soon Jared was brought in. “Jared, did you kill Ramon son of Samon?” Jared stared at Joshua, “How did you know?! Whoops!” Joshua glanced at Jared with angry eyes, “Why did you kill an innocent man and make us thing 2 other men killed him?!!?” Jared looked at Joshua and said, “I just wanted to get Jeremy and Jobia in trouble for humiliating me.” “What did they do?” Jared sniffed and said, “About 10 days a go I claimed God gave me the best eye for archery. Jeremy then challenged me to an archery contest. I took it and lost horribly. A day later, I claimed I was the best swordsman ever. Then Jobia challenged me to 3 battles with wooden swords. I lost all 3 battles. I then stole Jeremy’s dagger on the all night-march to Gibeon and took Jobia’s dagger, too all on the same night. Then I left the battle early with Ramon and when he had to relief himself, I stabbed him with both daggers, dragged to the front of his tent, because I knew Jeremy and Jobia would past there. Soon I heard their arrest and when they were preparing for Ramon burial, I stole the 2 daggers and left the burial early. The daggers were very fine so I decided to keep them and wear them. I wore them today and then I got caught, so there.” Joshua was red with anger. This fox had killed a man, set up 2 innocent men, stole their daggers and lied. Joshua roared, “You have broken 4 laws of the 10 Commandments!!!!! You killed, lied, stole and wanted something of your neighbor!!! I want you to go out to find Jeremy and kill 60 wild goats in 2 days or you die!! Here’s your list of what to bring!!

Jared looked at the list and gaped. It said…

60 arrows

2 dogs

1 bag of food

1 bow

2 bags to carry the goats.

Jared stared at Joshua. “I need rope an-.” “Shut your mouth! I want you to bring Jobia with you. I want him to watch you!!” roared Joshua. Soon, Jared and Jobia set out for the hunt for Jeremy. Jared gave Jobia a swift dirty look. Jobia gave a triumph grin. “You deserve it, Jared the Slimy Snake! You’ll never find even find 2 goats in a day!” snarled Jobia, “You might die of no goat!” Jared swore at Jobia. Jobia laughed and skipped ahead. Jared his bow rushed at Jobia and conked him in the head. He took off his shirt and untied a rope that was wound around his belly. He then tied up Jobia and put him on the 2 worn out dogs. He then saw an old cave he used to play in. He rushed over there. He looked over his shoulder and saw the day was darkening. He kicked the 2 dogs into the cave and threw Jobia in. He walked in and tripped over a dog fell onto a slimy and furry thing. He got up and saw 10 dead goats in a pile. He looked behind the pile and saw Jeremy and a donkey. His mind urged him to kill Jeremy. He quickly got his bow and arrows. Just then Jobia rolled toward Jared and hit his legs. Jared yelped as he fell. He turned and notched an arrow and aimed at Jobia’s heart. “Die you son of Josiah!” Jeremy had woken up from Jared’s yelp. He leaped over Jobia, letting the arrow hit him instead of hitting his friend. Jared gasped as the arrow hit Jeremy and then laughed with glee. “Ha Ha! Jeremy that was a useless sacrifice! Both of you will die, idiot! Ha Ha!” roared Jared, “Ha Ha!” Jeremy snarled at Jared. “Your life will come with me!” Jeremy then threw his dagger and it hit Jared. “What goes around comes around…” whispered Jeremy “No… No! Jeremy, don’t leave me! Please Jeremy!” whimpered Jobia. “Sorry Jobia, son of Josiah, I must join my fathers in heaven. I see the angels singing! Goodbye…”Jeremy gave out his last breath and released his soul. Thus ends the life of Jeremy, son of Daniel and the life of Jared, son of Tared. Jobia picked up Jeremy and walked back to the camp of Gilgal.
